On Saturday, 06 June 2026, Timor Port celebrated World Environment Day and World Oceans Day by reaffirming its commitment to biodiversity conservation and marking the release of a three-year-old loggerhead sea turtle into the ocean.

Held at Dolok Oan, the event brought together representatives from the Directorate-General for the Environment, members of the local community, and the Timor Port conservation team to recognize the importance of protecting marine ecosystems and promoting environmental stewardship. The celebration highlighted Timor Port’s Biodiversity Action Plan, which focuses on the conservation of sea turtles, mangroves, and seagrass habitats.

Since launching its sea turtle conservation program in Kaitehu on 25 October 2022, Timor Port has released approximately 6,000 baby sea turtles into the ocean. The company has also established a sea turtle aquarium to provide a safe environment for hatchlings before their release, while supporting environmental education and awareness among local communities.

A key highlight of the event was the release of a three-year-old loggerhead sea turtle that had been protected and cared for by the Kaitehu community and the Timor Port conservation team. After years of dedicated care, the turtle was successfully returned to its natural habitat.

“Protecting our oceans and biodiversity is a shared responsibility. Through our partnership with local communities, we are helping to preserve marine life and create a more sustainable future for generations to come,”

said Laurent Palayer, CEO of Timor Port.

Through these initiatives, including its sea turtle conservation program, Timor Port continues to demonstrate its commitment to environmental sustainability and biodiversity protection, contributing to the long-term health of Timor-Leste’s coastal and marine ecosystems.
