The first public-private partnership in the country, Timor Port represents a total investment of $490 million over a 30-year period. It is the largest ever built in Timor-Leste with a private partner.
The new port is situated in the Bay of Tibar, 12 km from the capital Dili. Conforming to international standards, it is equipped with the most modern handling equipment and operating software that will enable the operation of container vessels of over 7 500 TEUs, thus reaching a level of productivity and performance worthy of the biggest ports in the world.
Timor Port’s stated ambition is to facilitate the country’s trade with the rest of the world, particularly with China, Northern Australia and Asian countries. In this perspective, the objective is to make Tibar Bay a transhipment hub and a gateway to the Asia-Pacific zone.
Four years of work were necessary to transform this virgin land into a new highly competitive port. To achieve this, AGL selected the China Harbor Engineering Company (CHEC) for the construction and ZPMC for the supply of the latest generation of handling equipment (STS quayside and RTG yard gantries).
OUR SERVICESPhase 1 of our project is to create the conditions for efficient trade in Timor Leste. Meeting the current demand and developing our services to increase the import and export of goods. This phase will be Timor Port’s earliest to ensure a smooth transition from the former port of Dili and implement all requirements for proper customer service.
Phase two of the project will be implemented after the increase in traffic. It will consist of expanding the number of handling equipment, various STS, RTG and MHC cranes on site as well as the total container storage capacity.
